THE MYRES OF SCOTLAND
Welcome to Eskdalemuir - a tiny rural settlement with huge surprises.

A rugged landscape with views of the Eskdalemuir forest, the settlement is relatively scattered. The biggest surprise is that the area is home to the largest Buddhist Monastery and Tibetan Centre in the Western world today. With a spectacular temple and grounds, it is a sight to behold.

You expect many things when you go to Scotland. You expect mountains and green pastures. Hills and dales. The last thing you would expect is tattoos and monks. The shaven heads and maroon robes, the uniform dispensation of any identifying traits of individuality - all of it affect a kind of disguise. When a monk inadvertently moves his sleeve, and you catch sight of a tattoo embroidering his arm or laced around his neck, the effect is almost shocking - the rude intrusion of a life that has been discarded on a new life that has been found.
